Mechanical Engineering Department at CUST

Capital University of Science & Technology (CUST) established in 1998 has recognition in the country and abroad by maintaining excellent academic standards. The Mechanical Engineering Department of CUST is well known for its Research and Development activities.

The department offers degree programs in BE, MS., and PhD in Mechanical Engineering. Also, it has MS and PhD degree programs in Engineering Management. The Department has established four research groups.

The Thermo-Fluids Research Group. The group is involved in multidisciplinary research with a clear focus on both fundamental and applied research in thermo-fluids including aerodynamics, multiphase flows, HVAC, sprays and combustion, computational fluid dynamics, turbulence, renewable energy and thermal and hydraulic augmentation, phase change material, energy harvesting systems.

The Mechanics and Materials in Design Research Group. Group research activity is in many aspects of mechanics, materials, biomechanics, and engineering design. The research in Applied Mechanics is directed at many challenging dynamics and vibration problems associated with the design of modern engineering structures at all length scales – from atomic structures and MEMS devices to the largest man-made structures. The research into Materials is concerned with composites, superconductors, lattice structures, and metallic foams, as well as material processing and joining. In Engineering Design, the focus is on the development, validation, and dissemination of advanced design methods for technical systems, in particular mechanical systems. In Biomechanics, engineering principles taken from the traditional disciplines of mechanics and materials are applied to biological systems, with applications in biology, biotechnology, and medicine.

The Renewable Energy Research Group. The group is actively involved in multidisciplinary research with a focus in clean energy including power from solar radiation, wind, biomass, and hydropower from rivers, ocean waves, and tides. Various aspects of solar thermal power and photovoltaic power technologies. Also, solar water heating, solar dryers, and other solar applications. The Industrial and Manufacturing Research Group. The group aims to tackle industrial and manufacturing problems to provide sustainable solutions. It includes the area of operations research, supply chain management, logistics, scheduling & planning, and industrial scale optimization.
